New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu has revealed that he needs a new kidney in his long-running health battle.

The winger was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder in 1995 and received a kidney transplant in 2004.

Lomu spent two weeks in hospital last year during the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

"Unfortunately none of the treatment has worked, my kidney is exactly the same as it was when I first got sick," Lomu said.

"I know I was fortunate to get the first transplant but there are more difficulties this time around.

"The match will be harder and the process of finding a suitable donor is difficult. The chances of my body rejecting this kidney are higher too."

Lomu retired from rugby in 2007.
