Thomas Makinson scores two of St Helens' four tries as they claim a 20-6 win over the Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

St Helens have continued their Super League playoff push with an impressive 26-6 win at the Catalans Dragons.

The Saints made a bright start in Perpignan and broke the deadlock after four minutes courtesy of a try from Francis Meli.

Scrum half Gareth O'Brien then had his evening brought to an abrupt end after he was stretched off following a late challenge from former Saint Leon Pryce.

Thomas Makinson then went over in the corner to help Saints push further ahead, but Morgan Escare's boot helped the Dragons reduce the deficit to 14-6 at the interval.

Early in the second half Makinson gave St Helens breathing space with his second try, capitalising on a high pass to beat a static home defence.

The Dragons' second row Antoni Maria was then sinbinned for a late tackle on Adam Swift, with the visitors taking full advantage to put the victory beyond doubt.

Paul Wellens marked his 400th Super League match with a pair of late tries, with Jordan Turner converting both to help push Saints up to fifth, as the race for playoff places hots up.
