Scrum-half Theo Fages resigns from Salford Red Devils

French international scrum-half Theo Fages resigns from Salford Red Devils after having his transfer request rejected by the club last month.

Theo Fages has become the latest player to enter into a dispute with Salford Red Devils after resigning from the club.

The French international asked to leave Salford last month, but was told that owner Marwan Koukash would only accept a world record transfer bid.

A statement from the scrum-half's representatives, TM Sports, said: "Theo Fages has confirmed that on Wednesday, July 22 he has exercised his right to terminate his contract with Salford Red Devils as per clause 24.1 due to a number of repudiatory breaches.

"The club were given the formal seven days' notice as per the requirements, and the RFL have advised that the club have exercised their right to appeal the decision and therefore the matter will be referred to an independent tribunal at the earliest opportunity."

According to BBC Radio Manchester, the Red Devils reject the player's claims and do not accept his resignation.

Earlier this year, Tony Puletua and Kevin Locke both left the AJ Bell Stadium under a cloud, amid claims of unpaid wages.

Salford host Wakefield Wildcats on Sunday in their first fixture of the Super 8 Qualifiers.
