Wakefield Trinity Wildcats thrash Salford City Reds

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats thrash struggling Salford City Reds, scoring eight tries in a 46-10 win.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have thrashed Salford City Reds 46-10 in their Super League encounter this evening.

The hosts opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Danny Williams touched down in the corner after some quick hands.

The lead lasted just eight minutes, however, as Wakefield scored through Paul Aiton, while Lee Smith knocked the kick over to make it 6-4 to the visitors.

The Wildcats extended their advantage shortly afterwards with two quickfire tries. Captain Danny Kirmond touched down before Richard Mathers set up Dean Collis for a walk-in score.

Mathers then got his own name on the scoresheet when he collected Tim Smith's kick before having his grounding confirmed by the video referee.

There was still time for another before half time as Paul Sykes went over for his 100th career try to make it 30-4 at the break.

The visitors picked up where they left off at the start of the second half, Oliver Wilkes bundling over from close range to add to his side's lead.

Salford pulled one try back just before the hour mark as Mathers's pass was intercepted by Jodie Broughton, who raced 90 metres to touch down.

Any chance of a dramatic comeback was quashed shortly afterwards, however, as Ben Cockayne and Peter Fox both went over to make it 46-10 and complete the scoring.
