Tempers flare as Salford Red Devils beat Widnes Vikings

Salford Red Devils beat Widnes Vikings to make it four wins from five in the Super League Qualifiers.

Salford Red Devils have beaten Widnes Vikings 24-10 to secure their Super League status for next year.

Visitors Salford went into the lead with a try two minutes in when Junior S'au offloaded the ball to the wing for Josh Griffin to score. Michael Dobson missed the conversion, but kicked over a penalty four minutes later to make it 6-0.

The Vikings then picked up their own try, with Rhys Hanbury lofting the ball over the heads of the Red Devils to find Patrick Ah Van on the left wing, who ran over for his side's first points of the day.

Salford went further ahead with 19 minutes gone when Scott Taylor forced over after Logan Tomkins was held up short of the line.

Dobson converted, and it was not long until he did so again with Cory Paterson running under the posts to help the visitors to an 18-4 half-time lead.

S'au gave the Red Devils an even bigger advantage with a try shortly into the second half, but Widnes were this time able to offer a reply as Lloyd White ran over for the home side's second try of the game with just under 20 minutes remaining.

Tempers began to flare, and after Widnes' Kevin Brown and Salford's Griffin received red cards for brawling, neither side could force the ball over as it finished 24-10 to the visitors.
