Malanda laid to rest in Brussels

Wolfsburg midfielder Junior Malanda was laid to rest in Brussels on Tuesday following a fatal car crash last week.

The 20-year-old died in a high-speed crash after the driver lost control on a slippery road near Porta Westfalica in Germany.

Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots, Wolfsburg manager Klaus Allofs, coach Dieter Hecking and numerous players attended Malanda's funeral at the main basilica.

"It is a tough day for all," The AP quotes former teammate Mbaye Leye as saying. "We are here to support the family."

More than 1,000 people attended the service to pay their respects to the young footballer.
