England's last US Open winner Tony Jacklin backs Justin Rose to go on and win four of five Major titles, following his success at the Merion Golf Club last weekend.

Former US Open champion Tony Jacklin has backed Justin Rose to use his maiden Major triumph as a springboard for further success.

Rose became the first Englishman to win a US Open since Jacklin in 1970 with success at the Merion Golf Club, while also ending a 17-year wait for home success in any major championship.

Jacklin thinks that Rose now finally has the confidence to match his talent, predicting that the 32-year-old could go on to win more top titles in the next few years.

He told BBC Sport: "He finished like a true champion. It takes a lot of courage to win a major championship. You have to stay in the moment, which sounds very easy but when the stakes are high it's very hard.

"To come through it is fantastic and I was proud of him. He's a good guy, he's good for the game.

"Merion was the great examination it's supposed to be, it was fantastic. It's all about confidence and I've no reason to believe he couldn't win four or five majors."

A final round of 70 saw Rose edge Phil Mickelson to claim the breakthrough title, a win which he then dedicated to his late father.
