Max Verstappen battles back from a poor pit stop to win Sunday's United States Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver, who has already successfully defended his world title, looked to have missed out on yet another victory in 2022 when his team made an error at a pit stop in the second half of the race.

However, the Dutchman's greater speed proved decisive as he rallied back to overtake Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages of the race in Texas.

There will be disappointment in the Mercedes camp, who will feel that they had an opportunity to win for the first time this season, but they and Hamilton were powerless to Verstappen's superior surges down the longer straights.

Verstappen's victory is his 13th of the campaign, equalling the all-time record for most wins in a season currently held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

Red Bull have also been confirmed as Constructors champions, now holding a 187-point lead over second-placed Ferrari.

The Italian manufacturer endured a disastrous start as pole-sitter Carlos Sainz Jr had to retire at the end of the first lap after making contact with George Russell at the opening corner.

However, the Spaniard's teammate Charles Leclerc enjoyed a strong afternoon, overcoming a 10-place grid penalty to go from 12th to third spot come the finish line.

Red Bull's Sergio Perez had to make do with fourth, the Mexican improving from ninth to fourth, while Russell was 36 seconds further adrift in fifth position.

McLaren's Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso, Vettel, Kevin Magnussen and Yuki Tsunoda completed the top 10 to finish in the points-scoring spots.

The most significant movement in the Drivers' standings sees Leclerc establish a two-point lead over Perez in second, with Russell 47 points back in fourth.

Hamilton is also closer to moving past fifth-placed Sainz Jr, the gap now sitting at just four points courtesy of Hamilton's runners-up place and the Ferrari man's DNF.
