Nico Rosberg tops championship after winning Singapore Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg leads the drivers' championship after winning the Singapore Grand Prix.

Nico Rosberg has retaken the lead in the Formula 1 world championship after finishing in first place at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver saw off a late challenge from Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo to top the podium and open an eight-point lead over teammate Lewis Hamilton in the standings.

Ricciardo had to settle for second place, but his strong finish saw him cross the line just 0.488 seconds behind Rosberg.

Hamilton came in third ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, with his teammate Sebastian Vettel coming fourth and Max Verstappen of Red Bull rounding off the top five.

There was a chaotic start to the race as Force India's Nico Hulkenberg crashed into a wall shortly after the lights went out, resulting in retirement for him.

The race then restarted with a Singapore GP marshal still on the track and he narrowly avoided being hit by eventual winner Rosberg, who now tops the standings with six races remaining.
