Lewis Hamilton beats Nico Rosberg to pole position at Italian Grand Prix

Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton beats teammate Nico Rosberg to pole position at the Italian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has claimed pole position at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, finishing just ahead of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.

The Briton set his time early in the third part of qualifying, leaving the championship leader with too much time to find late on.

Rosberg was just 0.3 seconds ahead of Williams's Valtteri Bottas, who will start third alongside teammate Felipe Massa.

McLaren maintained their strong pace in practice, with Kevin Magnussen just finishing ahead of Jenson Button to put both cars on the third row of the grid.

Daniil Kvyat set the 11th-fastest time for Toro Rosso, who are celebrating the 500th Grand Prix this weekend, but will drop back 10 places after taking a new engine ahead of qualifying.
