German driver Nico Rosberg admits that he did not expect to win his first ever Formula 1 race in China.

Nico Rosberg has admitted that he didn't expect his maiden Formula 1 victory to arrive in China earlier today.

The German driver, who started on pole in Shanghai, controlled the race from start to finish on his way to claiming maximum points for the first time in his career.

Speaking after the race, the Mercedes driver revealed that he was "very happy" for everybody connected with the team.

"Unbelievable feeling, very cool, very happy and very excited," said the 26-year-old. "It's been a long time coming for me and the team also.

"It's amazing, and it's really nice to see how quickly we are progressing, I didn't expect to be that fast."

Rosberg has been competing in Formula 1 since 2005.
