Jenson Button: '2012 has been my worst year at McLaren'

Jenson Button says that this year's McLaren car hasn't suited him as well as the last two.

Jenson Button has said that 2012 has been his toughest year in Formula 1 since joining McLaren.

The 32-year-old won the opening race of the year in Australia, but has taken just one victory and two podium finishes since, and sits sixth in the drivers' standings.

The 2009 world champion told The Guardian: "This car hasn't suited me as well as McLaren's last two.

"Since I've been here this has been the worst year. It's been tricky, even on good weekends. We've had a problem pretty much every weekend, lately. We need to stop it. I don't get it.

"Next year is exciting but we've still got two races where we want to do well in. We still want to get Ferrari in the constructors, but it's 22 points [behind] now, which is quite big. We need some good points in the next two."

Button joined McLaren for the 2010 season, and will be accompanied at the Woking-based team by Sergio Perez next season as Lewis Hamilton heads to Mercedes.
