At least three Formula 1 drivers are positioning themselves as potential candidates for seats with the newly-approved Cadillac F1 team, which is set to join the grid in 2026.

Valtteri Bottas, almost certainly to become Mick Schumacher's replacement as Mercedes' reserve driver for 2025, revealed he has already initiated contact with Cadillac. The Finn sees the team as a potential route back to a full-time race seat.

"A new team increases my chances of getting back on the grid in 2026, which is the goal," said Bottas, who also has an offer to compete in the Indy 500 next year.

"We haven't gone into the details yet because first I need to establish what my actual day-to-day tasks will be in 2025," Bottas explained. "It depends on whether I will be there at every grand prix or not.

"But the Indy 500 has always been on my list, and I'm also a fan of V8 Supercars, so I'm quite open, but first I have to decide what the next step is."

Kevin Magnussen, to be replaced at Haas for 2025, is also eyeing Cadillac as a potential avenue for his Formula 1 future. While he has been offered a non-driving role at Haas by team boss Ayao Komatsu, Magnussen is keeping his options open.

"Ayao and I have talked about what we can do together," the Dane revealed, suggesting that staying involved in the paddock could keep his F1 hopes alive.

Magnussen's prior experience with Cadillac's factory team in IMSA adds to his prospects. "I drove for the Cadillac factory team in IMSA in 2021, and I know the racing management very well," he said. "I haven't spoken to them yet, but these people are involved in the Formula 1 project."

Zhou Guanyu, Bottas' teammate at Audi-Sauber, is also considering his future after losing his seat for 2025. The Chinese driver has been linked with a Ferrari test role, a move he sees as a stepping stone toward discussions with Cadillac.

"I think from my position, it's a great opportunity and a great chance when I don't have a seat for next season," Zhou said. "If there is a chance to grab, I will absolutely take it."
