Preview: York City vs. Dagenham & Redbridge - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between York City and Dagenham & Redbridge, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

York City look to continue their strong return to the National League against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

The Minstermen were promoted last season and sit in seventh place, while the visitors to the LNER Stadium are just three points back in 11th.

York picked up win number six on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against basement boys Torquay United courtesy of Alex Hurst's second-half strike, and they had plenty of chances to wrap the game up.

It was a third home win of the season so far that moved them into a playoff position which, even at this early stage, is impressive for a team that earned promotion to the fifth tier through the playoffs in May.

The Minstermen's success has been built on their joint-best defensive record, conceding just 10 goals, which is matched by only Southend United.

It has not been all plain sailing going forward, though, with York's 17 strikes the lowest out of the top eight sides and two fewer than 23rd-placed Scunthorpe.

Top scorer Lenell John-Lewis has more than a third of those goals with six to his name, which includes two that he hit in the 5-0 thrashing of Barnet at the start of October.

The goals have not been hard to come by in games involving Dagenham, though, as the Daggers have scored 23 and conceded 29, including four or more in four of their last seven matches.

However, it was a more tame affair in their last outing, when they drew 1-1 with Essex rivals Southend on Saturday.

Dagenham had plenty of chances and would have been disappointed not to have taken all three points after Junior Morias had opened the scoring in the first half, only for Callum Powell to equalise 11 minutes from the end.

Away wins have been hard to come by for Dagenham this season, as they have picked up just one win on their travels so far and have lost four of the other five games.

However, a win at York would mean back-to-back wins on the road for Daryl McMahon's team and would take them level on points with their hosts, albeit with a far inferior goal difference.

Team News

Both teams could be reluctant to make too many changes ahead of FA Cup ties against lower-league opposition next weekend.

New signing Nathan Thomas could be in line to make his first appearance after he was an unused substitute against Torquay, and Ryan Fallowfield should be alright to keep his spot in defence after coming through Saturday's game unscathed.

Fraser Kerr was not involved at the weekend so is a doubt for this one, meaning Gus Mafuta should keep his place in the starting lineup.

Dagenham's main concern is about Junior Morias, who was substituted in the draw with Southend with a shoulder injury, but manager McMahon said after the game that he expects his striker to be able to play a part on Tuesday.

Josh Hare could also make way for Elliott Johnson, meaning Sam Ling could be moved to right-back in Hare's place.

York City possible starting lineup:
Ross; Fallowfield, Kouogun, Pybus, Whittle; Sanders, Mafuta, Dyson; Hurst, John-Lewis, Kouhyar

Dagenham & Redbridge possible starting lineup:
Justham; Ling, Phipps, Robinson, Johnson; Onariase, Rance, Sagaf; Morias, McCallum, Weston

SM words green background

We say: York City 2-2 Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham score a lot of goals but they have not been too good defensively, and York will look to take advantage of that weakness so we expect this to be a fairly even but exciting encounter.
