Wolves transfer news: Netherlands international, England Under-21 star 'on list of midfield options'

Wolves have Netherlands international, England Under-21 star 'on list of midfield options'

Wolverhampton Wanderers allegedly have plans to make a high-profile midfield signing before the end of the summer transfer window.

In recent days, the focus has been on the future of forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has been heavily linked with Newcastle United but now appears in line to remain at Molineux.

On the incoming front, Girona defender Ladislav Krejci has arrived at the club and there is every expectation that Genk striker Tolu Arokodare will be acquired to compete with Strand Larsen.

However, head coach Vitor Pereira is known to want extra competition for Andre and Joao Gomes in central midfield, the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi yet to fully convince in that area while they are also viewed as options at number 10.

According to separate reports, it appears that Wolves will be attempting to add a big name to their engine room.

Which midfielders are Wolves looking to sign?

As per ESPN in the Netherlands, Wolves have enquired about the availability of Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor.

The 23-year-old has come through the academy ranks at the Dutch giants to contribute 34 goals and 23 assists from 168 appearances in all competitions.

Taylor has also earned five caps for the Netherlands, but he has reached a stage where he has just under two years remaining on his Ajax contract.

Wolves are seemingly considering whether to make an offer prior to the September 1 deadline, but Taylor has completed the 90 minutes in Ajax's opening three Eredivisie fixtures to highlight his importance to the team.

Meanwhile, John Percy of The Telegraph says that Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney is another player who Wolves would like to sign over the coming days.

Middlesbrough are currently of the stance that they will refuse offers for the England Under-21 international with Ipswich Town having allegedly missed out on a £20m deal earlier this summer.

Hackney has 11 goals and 10 assists from his 117 appearances in a Middlesbrough shirt and is currently starring in a team that have won each of their opening three Championship games under Rob Edwards.

With Finn Azaz having been sold to Southampton on Friday, Boro's stance is likely to remain that they will not consider offers for Hackney, even with just two years left on his contract.

Wolves' final piece of business?

If Wolves can keep Strand Larsen and sign a central midfielder and Genk frontman Arokodare, that may turn out to be their final piece of business.

That is despite another playmaker being craved by Pereira and Wolves could continue to assess market opportunities on that front.

There remains the potential for Hwang Hee-chan to leave if a suitable permanent offer is made.
