Solbakken wants Edwards to stay

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Stale Solbakken has insisted that David Edwards still has a future at the club.

The Welsh midfielder's career at Molineux has been the source of speculation in recent days after he was left out of the squad that took on Southampton in a pre-season friendly at the weekend.

However, Solbakken has revealed that the 26-year-old has been suffering with injuries.

"I've told Dave that I like him as a player and think he'll have a future here," said the boss. "But he came in late for pre-season because he'd been with Wales and then he got an injury and was out for a little while.

"He played the 60 minutes in Telford and then went out again, so I just thought it would be better for him to train fully last weekend and get some air in his lungs rather than maybe start on the bench and play 15 minutes or something."

Edwards joined Wolves from Luton Town in 2008.
