Wolves transfer news: Newcastle United dealt blow in potential Jorgen Strand Larsen chase

Newcastle dealt major blow as striker target reveals desire to "take care" of new signing

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has seemingly suggested that he would not be interested in joining Newcastle United this summer.

In his first season at Molineux, the 25-year-old contributed 14 goals and four assists from 35 appearances in the Premier League.

The West Midlands outfit have since completed the formalities of finalising a £29m move for a player who had initially been on loan from Celta Vigo, but that has not stopped admirers emerging from elsewhere.

Newcastle are currently being heavily linked with the likes of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko and Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa.

However, reports have indicated that Strand Larsen is also on their radar as they consider how to replace Alexander Isak should he leave in a British transfer-record move to Liverpool.

Strand Larsen hints at Wolves stay

On Saturday morning, Wolves confirmed that they had signed AZ Alkmaar defender David Moller Wolfe, who is expected to become the club's new first-choice left wing-back.

Strand Larsen knows Moller Wolfe from their time with the Norway national team and it has been revealed that the frontman played a part in the process of attracting his compatriot to Wolves.

Speaking to the club's official website, Strand Larsen said: "Maybe I should start working as an agent. It’s really nice, I’m glad he's here.

"He’s obviously a good friend of mine from the national team, he spoke to me a lot before coming here. He's been wanting to come here for a while now, and I'm glad it's done, and we can start working, because we still have some time before the first game of season.”

Furthermore, Strand Larsen also said that he will help Moller Wolfe "make decisions" and "take care of him", implying that he fully expects to be at Wolves for 2025-26.

Reports have claimed that Wolves would not consider the sale of Strand Larsen unless they received a bid of at least £65m.

Wolves relying on Strand Larsen

Although Fer Lopez - another former Strand Larsen teammate - and Jhon Arias have been acquired to strengthen the final third, Strand Larsen remains the undisputed first-choice frontman.

As it stands, Sasa Kalajdzic, who had spent over a year on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, is viewed as backup, but he is currently not being risked for longer than 30 minutes per outing.

Wolves are currently in the process of trying to sign more suitable competition for Strand Larsen, something which will take priority once a new right wing-back has been signed.
