Wolves transfer news: Italian giants 'make contact' for Fabio Silva

Italian giants 'make contact' over Wolves forward Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for a Serie A giant.

The Portugal international was recently included on the club's pre-season trip to his homeland having returned from his loan stint with Las Palmas.

However, with just a year remaining on his contract and no interest in a renewal, a permanent departure is expected to be facilitated before the end of the summer window.

As such, there is widespread interest in his signature with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig having previously been credited as two frontrunners in the race for his services.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, however, a team from Serie A is taking an interest in the 23-year-old.

Which Italian club wants Silva?

The report alleges that Roma have made contact with the relevant people to establish conditions for a transfer.

Roma are on the lookout for new additions having recently tempted Gian Piero Gasperini to leave Atalanta BC for Stadio Olimpico.

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson has just arrived on loan, but further attacking additions are anticipated in due course.

Since the end of 2024-25, it has been suggested that Wolves will look to recoup £25m for Silva, despite less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

Realistically-speaking, Roma are unlikely to meet those demands having missed out on Champions League football and being eager to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

Nevertheless, Wolves' hierarchy know that they can ill-afford to lose their £35m signing from 2020 on a free transfer and there will be room for negotiation.

Silva in need of a permanent home

Much is made of Silva's poor return - largely as a youngster - at Molineux, but he has put together a respectable record across four loan stints elsewhere.

A total of 32 goals and nine assists have been contributed from 101 appearances at Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Las Palmas respectively.

His form for Las Palmas, where he netted against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, led to his first senior cap for Portugal, and he will be eager to becoming a a permanent fixture on the international scene.
