Wigan Athletic extend winless run

Wigan Athletic extend their winless run courtesy of a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wigan Athletic are without a win in their last six outings after playing out a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.

Shaun Maloney rattled the Wolves upright in the opening minutes, but he had already been penalised for using his arm to bring the ball down.

Good work from Wolves' Bakary Sako saw him cut the ball back to Matt Doherty from the byline, but the full-back's first-time effort was blocked.

The home side eventually went in front through David Edwards, who nodded home Rajiv van la Parra's angled ball from the edge of the area.

The goal might have discouraged Wigan given their poor start to the season, but James Perch rose highest to head in an immediate equaliser for the Latics.

Fortune then added a second for the visitors in first-half stoppage time, lashing in Andrew Taylor's cross.

The striker continued where he left off after the break and headed wide an Emyr Huws free kick as Wigan looked to extend their advantage.

It was not all their way, however, with Tommy Rowe finding Nouha Dicko with a weighted through-ball before the Wolves striker's eventual shot was saved by Scott Carson.

The hosts found an equalising goal through Sako, who curled into the bottom corner after Wigan failed to clear their lines.

Doherty hit the bar late on but neither side could find a winner, meaning both sides had to settle for a share of the points.
