Stale Solbakken reveals that he had the chance to manage in the Champions League but decided to opt for the "challenge" of the Wolves job.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' new manager Stale Solbakken has said that he turned down offers from clubs that had the opportunity of Champions League football in order to take charge in the Black Country.

The 44-year-old took charge at Molineux in May following the club's relegation to the Championship.

"I got a lot of offers and some were more interesting than others and then I had two or three offers," said Solbakken.

"One of which was from a club playing in the Champions League."

Solbakken said the "challenge" of managing a club not at the top of their domestic league was what attracted him to Wolves.

He added: "Then Wolves came and in a way I'd done the other things with getting clubs into the Champions League and playing there.

"So the idea that is was a very different challenge was why it appealed."

Wolves travel to Leeds United on the opening day of the season on August 18.
