Wolfsburg cruise to win at Stuttgart

Ivan Perisic scores twice as Wolfsburg cruise to a 4-0 victory over Stuttgart to prevent Bayern Munich from going clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

A comfortable 3-0 victory over Stuttgart has allowed Wolfsburg to keep the pressure on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Wolfsburg were on the back foot in the early stages, but they took the lead in the 15th minute when Ivan Perisic broke free of the Stuttgart defence on the wing before firing a low strike past Thorsten Kirschbaum.

The visitors quickly improved after taking the lead, and were inches away from a second goal midway through the first half when Ivica Olic rattled the crossbar with a powerful effort.

Stuttgart's vulnerable defence gifted Wolfsburg an even bigger lead in first-half stoppage time as the unmarked Robin Knoche arrived in the box to head home from Kevin De Bruyne's cross.

Any hopes of a Stuttgart fightback were dashed early in the second half when Vieirinha, who had replaced the injured Daniel Caligiuri early in the game, delivered the perfect cross to allow De Bruyne to volley past Kirschbaum from close range.

The hosts wasted a chance to reduce the deficit when Antonio Rudiger could only head straight at Diego Benaglio after finding space in the box.

Wolfsburg were able to relax in the closing stages and they wrapped up an emphatic win in style when De Bruyne led a counter-attack before picking out Perisic, who tapped in for his second of the afternoon.
