Aldershot Town record first win in eight games to beat Woking

Promotion hopefuls Woking have continued their poor form in the Conference Premier after falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Aldershot Town.

Goals from Andre McCollin and Brett Williams have extended the club's winless run to five games, while Aldershot's success has taken them 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Aldershot made the trip to the Kingfield Stadium having lost six out of their last seven games, but it took the visitors just seven minutes to take the lead against their hosts.

After a neat move out of defence, the ball arrived at the feet of McCollin, who attempted to cross to Dan Holman, but the ball evaded everyone before drifting in at the back post.

Woking attempted to hit back through Chris Arthur, but his long-range strike was well kept out by goalkeeper Dan Thomas, who was replacing the suspended Phil Smith.

Aldershot recovered to double their advantage shortly before the half-hour mark. After seeing his initial header smartly saved by Ross Worner, Williams capitalised on the rebound to tap the ball home from inside the six-yard box.

Woking have been out of form in recent weeks and looked a shadow of a team chasing a playoff spot. They were fortunate not to fall further behind before the break when Holman flicked Jordan Roberts's cross wide of the post.

Less than a minute into the second half, Holman wasted two more opportunities to strengthen his team's position before Woking started to find their rhythm, with Giuseppe Sole looking dangerous for the home side.

Kieron Forbes almost sealed the points for Aldershot, but was denied by Worner, with Woking's only chance falling the way of Jack Marriott, who had an effort well blocked by Roberts.

With two minutes remaining, Woking found a way back into the contest when Marriott flicked in from close range, but it was too little too late and Aldershot held on to record an important three points.
