Andy Carroll wants to earn a place in the England squad for the next World Cup having secured a permanent move to West Ham United.

New West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is hoping that his permanent move to Upton Park can help him secure a place with England at next year's World Cup.

The 24-year-old completed his move to the Hammers from Liverpool on Wednesday, having impressed during his year-long loan spell at the club last season.

Carroll is now hoping that he can progress with West Ham, and hopes that the switch will improve his chances of representing the Three Lions should they qualify for Brazil in 2014.

"My aim is keeping fit, scoring goals and performing every week," Carroll told the Daily Mail.

"If I do that I'll hopefully get in the England team. It's always important to play football for your country. If I play well and keep fit, I'm going to be playing every week. If it comes, England will come.

"[Sam Allardyce is] a great manager. It's always good when you've got somebody behind you. He gives me confidence to show what I am about."

West Ham will start the new season at home to Premier League debutants Cardiff City.
