Carlton Cole 'fails medical ahead of West Ham United return'

Carlton Cole's expected return to West Ham United has reportedly broken down.

The 29-year-old was closing in on a short-term deal with the Premier League outfit, who released him from his contract at the end of last season.

The Hammers announced earlier this week that Cole was having a medical ahead of the transfer, but it is understood that Cole failed the fitness tests, according to London 24.

Cole spent seven years at Upton Park before his release.
