Michail Antonio 'finally feeling comfortable' in stop-start season

Antonio: 'I'm finally feeling comfortable'

West Ham United wideman Michail Antonio hopes that his injury problems are behind him in time for his side's end-of-season run-in.

Michail Antonio has vowed to fire West Ham United up the Premier League table after finally putting an end to a series of niggling injury problems.

The 27-year-old has been restricted to four appearances in all competitions since returning from a separate five-week layoff at the start of February - three of those from the bench.

Antonio, who has 14 Premier League starts under his belt in 2017-18, acknowledges that he has been unable to reach peak form until this point due to the frustrating nature of his stop-start campaign.

"I'm definitely starting to feel sharper," the London Evening Standard quotes him as saying. "It's taken a long time for me to get back to a point where I feel I can beat people and score goals, but my confidence is coming back and hopefully I can help the team get out of the situation that we're currently in.

"I've not really had the opportunity to get into my stride and be the same player I was in the previous two seasons, because every time I've got close to being myself again, I've picked up another niggle.

"It's taken me half a season to get to a place where I feel comfortable and I feel good, so hopefully I can stay fit and sharp for the remainder of the season. It's disappointing that my goals are not winning games for us, so hopefully next time I score, it will be a winner!"

Antonio's last two goals came in the back-to-back 4-1 away defeats at Liverpool and Swansea City.
