Half-Time Report: Mark Noble scores penalty against 10-man Burnley

Mark Noble scores from the penalty spot for West Ham United after Michael Duff is sent off for Burnley at Upton Park.

West Ham United have taken a 1-0 lead into half time after scoring a penalty against Burnley this afternoon, following a red card for the visitors at Upton Park.

The hosts were on the attack early on when Enner Valencia stretched to reach a cross from Aaron Cresswell, but the Ecuador international could not turn it in.

Burnley's chances were dealt a blow just over 20 minutes in when Cheikhou Kouyate was brought down by Michael Duff in the penalty area, resulting in a red card for the defender.

The hosts were also awarded a spot kick as a result of the foul, leaving Mark Noble to slot the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards out.

Sam Allardyce's side could have made it two when Stewart Downing set up Valencia, but the striker's finish was tipped over by Tom Heaton to keep the deficit to one at the break.
