Team News: Saido Berahino on bench for West Bromwich Albion

Saido Berahino returns to the West Bromwich Albion bench after the controversy surrounding Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of the striker this summer.

Saido Berahino has returned to the West Bromwich Albion bench after the controversy surrounding Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of the striker this summer.

Tony Pulis had previously intimated that he was willing to reincorporate the 22-year-old into his plans after Albion rejected three bids, but he is only granted a place as a substitute.

Meanwhile, Pulis has made four changes to the team which beat Stoke City last time out, with Jonny Evans making his debut in the centre of defence after signing from Manchester United.

Gareth McAuley returns to the side to partner Evans after the departure of Joleon Lescott to Aston Villa, while Chris Brunt comes in at left-back and Callum McManaman is chosen to play on the wing.

The big news for Southampton is that Virgil van Dijk makes his debut at centre-back after signing from Celtic in an £11.5m deal on transfer deadline day.

Van Dijk has replaced Maya Yoshida in defence, while Victor Wanyama is chosen ahead of Oriol Romeu and Jay Rodriguez returns to come in for Sadio Mane.

West Bromwich Albion: Myhill; Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Brunt; Gardner, Fletcher, Yacob, McManaman; Lambert, Rondon
Subs: Lindegaard, Olsson, Chester, Morrison, McClean, Gnabry, Berahino

Southampton: Stekelenburg; Soares, Fonte, van Dijk, Targett; Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, S. Davis, Rodriguez; Tadic, Pelle
Subs: K. Davis, Yoshida, Long, Mane, Romeu, Juanmi, Caulker
