Victor Anichebe defends under-fire Pepe Mel

Victor Anichebe believes that West Brom's players must take their share of the blame for the team's run of poor results.

West Bromwich Albion striker Victor Anichebe has insisted that the players must take their share of the blame for the team's recent run of poor results.

The Baggies find themselves above the relegation zone on goal difference after failing to register a win in their last eight matches.

That run has seen head coach Pepe Mel's future come into question, but Anichebe believes that the squad is just as responsible for results.

"It's down to us as players to go out there and play as well as we can," he told the club's official website.

"It's not all down to the head coach. We as players need to go out and do well for the team and the supporters.

"Whatever team the head coach puts out, we're the ones who step over the line and we need to work hard and fight."

West Brom return to action on Saturday when they make the trip to Swansea City in the Premier League.
