FA's investigation into Nicolas Anelka 'quenelle' gesture ongoing

The FA state that their investigation into Nicolas Anelka's 'quenelle' gesture during West Bromwich Albion's draw against West Ham United is ongoing.

The Football Association has released a statement claiming that their investigation into Nicolas Anelka's 'quenelle' gesture is ongoing.

The English governing body are considering whether or not to take action against the West Bromwich Albion striker following his goal celebration at Upton Park during the Baggies' 3-3 draw with West Ham United on December 28.

The gesture is said to have been an inverted Nazi salute, which was used by the Frenchman's friend and comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'bala.

A statement from the FA said: "The FA can confirm that its investigation into Nicolas Anelka remains ongoing. We are working with an appointed expert regarding the salient issues related to the 'quenelle' gesture.

"Whilst this work continues as quickly as possible, there will be no further update until Monday 20 January at the earliest. The FA will be making no further comment at this time."

Anelka is now under the leadership of Pepe Mel, who was appointed as the Premier League club's new head coach last night.
