Steve Clarke predicts "interesting" Newcastle United clash

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke believes that Newcastle United will be fired up for today's clash at The Hawthorns following defeat in the Tyne-Wear derby last weekend.

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has said that his team are "desperate" to get back to winning ways against Newcastle United this afternoon.

The Baggies welcome Alan Pardew's men to The Hawthorns having lost their last two games to West Ham United and Arsenal.

The Scot believes that the Magpies will need no motivation for the fixture following last Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland.

"The players are desperate to put the two defeats they've just had out the way and get back to picking up more points for the club," Clarke told reporters.

"Hopefully Newcastle will feel that. Newcastle should be wound up as well after a bad reverse last week in the derby game, so it should be an interesting fixture."

The Midlands outfit are currently eighth in the Premier League, six points behind Liverpool but with a game in hand.
