James Chester: 'I need to be playing at club level to be ready for Euro 2016'

Wales and West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester states that he needs to be playing regularly at club level in order to be able to compete effectively at Euro 2016.

Wales and West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester has insisted that he needs to be playing regularly at club level in order to perform for his country at Euro 2016.

Chester has been a part of the Wales squad that enjoyed a standout qualification campaign, but the young defender has also been quick to highlight that he will need to be given more chances by Baggies boss Tony Pulis to ensure that he can compete at the top level in the tournament in France next summer.

"I have to start playing at West Brom because it's impossible to play at this level and not be playing for your club week-in, week-out," said Chester, according to Wales Online.

"It's nearly impossible to not play every week and then come to this level expecting to be 100%, which is what you need to be to stop players of the class of [Arjen] Robben and Wesley Sneijder. And that's the level we will face in France.

"A lot has been made of Holland not qualifying but you only have to see the quality they had against us to see they are still one of the best in the world and every game we have in France will be of that level."

Wales qualified for Euro 2016 having finished second in Group B behind winners Belgium.
