Werder Bremen come past Chemnitzer in DFB-Pokal

Goals from Fin Bartels and Franco Di Santo are enough for Werder Bremen to beat Chemnitzer and progress to the third round of the DFB-Pokal.

Werder Bremen advanced to the third round of the DFB-Pokal by overcoming Chemnitzer 2-0 at the Stadion an der Gellertstrasse this evening.

The Bundesliga's bottom side, who are still without a league win this season, avoided embarrassment against third-tier opposition in Chemnitzer.

They took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Izet Hajrovic played the ball through to Fin Bartels and he found the top corner from inside the box.

The home side were restricted to shots from distance for the most part and they fell two goals behind in the 59th minute when Franco Di Santo finished from a similar position to Bartels after a through-ball from Clemens Fritz.
