Fulham lose in Germany

Martin Jol's Fulham slumped to a 1-0 defeat in their pre-season game against Werder Bremen in Germany.

Hosts Bremen started brightly and almost took the lead in the ninth minute when Aaron Hunt headed towards goal, but Maarten Stekelenburg managed to turn the ball over the crossbar.

As the half drew to a close, Bremen captain Clemens Fritz jinked his way into the penalty area, but his shot from close range was off target.

Their domination eventually told nine minutes after the restart when Nils Petersen took control of a loose ball inside the area to break the deadlock.

Fulham's best chance to level proceedings fell to Na Bangna, but he was unable to convert Dimitar Berbatov's through-ball.
