Consecutive defeats for Bayer Leverkusen

Werder Bremen beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 to consign them to two consecutive league defeats.

Bayer Leverkusen have suffered consecutive Bundesliga defeats as Werder Bremen followed Eintracht Frankfurt's lead with a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

The side second in the league started brightly, with both Stefan Kiessling and Robbie Kruse having early efforts but both could not test Raphael Wolf.

It remained all Bayer for the first 30 minutes but their finishing was wasteful as Gonzalo Castro hammered a shot from range well over the bar.

Eljero Elia had an effort saved as the hosts finally came to life but neither side were able to open the scoring before the break.

The second half started in a similar fashion, with Kruse stinging the palms of Wolf but they were to pay for their wastefulness.

On the break, Cedrick Makiadi found Santiago Garcia who finished well with 15 minutes to play to give Werder an unlikely three points.
