Dean Smith searching for "high-calibre" goalkeeper

Smith searching for "high-calibre" goalkeeper

Walsall manager Dean Smith has revealed that he is targeting an experienced replacement for goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell.

Earlier this week, O'Donnell, who won Walsall's Player of the Year award earlier this month, penned a three-year deal with Wigan Athletic, but Smith has insisted that he won't settle for anything less than a "high-calibre" stopper to challenge Craig MacGillivray for the number-one spot.

The 44-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "We want someone to come in and compete with Craig.

"The person we bring in will have experience of playing league football. The calibre of keeper we are looking at is very high."

Walsall ended the 2014-15 campaign in 14th place in the League One table.
