Borek Dockal scores winner as Czech Republic edge out Turkey

Dockal secures win for Czech Republic

Borek Dockal scored the winner as Czech Republic came from behind to beat Turkey 2-1 on Friday night.

Turkey took the lead in just the eighth minute when Umut Bulut pulled away from his marker in the box to head home from Caner Erkin's inviting cross.

Despite an impressive start from the hosts, the Czech Republic found themselves level eight minutes later when Tomas Sivok nodded in Tomas Rosicky's corner.

Gokhan Tore twice went close to restoring his side's lead late in the first half as he fired one effort just wide of the target, before striking the post with a powerful free kick.

The visitors improved after the break, but Turkey continued to look more threatening in the final third of the pitch as they went in search of their second lead of the night.

However, the home supporters were left disappointed in the 58th minute when Dockal drilled home after linking with Pavel Kaderabek inside the box.

Arda Turan should have equalised moments later, but his effort was too weak to trouble Petr Cech, who made a good save to deny the Atletico Madrid forward.

The Czech defence were forced to survive a few nervy moments late on as they held on for what could prove to be a crucial victory.
