Sebastian Giovinco hat-trick leads Toronto past Orlando

Giovinco scores hat-trick in Toronto win

Sebastian Giovinco scored a hat-trick as Toronto cruised to a 4-1 victory over Orlando City at BMO Field on Wednesday evening.

Toronto started the better of the two sides in a frantic beginning to the match, and they were rewarded with an early penalty when clever footwork from Marco Delgado invited the foul from Aurelien Collin.

Giovinco stepped up from 12 yards and he made no mistake with a calm low finish to give the hosts the lead.

Orlando responded impressively to get back on level terms when Luke Boden capitalised on space on the edge of the box to curl home a deflected effort.

Chances continued to be created at both ends of the pitch, with Delgado coming agonisingly close to giving Toronto the lead when he headed wide from Jackson's cross.

Toronto were on top either side of the interval, and their pressure forced a second goal early in the second half when Giovinco curled home a free kick off the post.

The home side missed the chance to add a third just a few moments later when Collen Warner fired wide after a patient passing move, but Orlando would struggle to produce a response to Giovinco's second of the evening.

It would be a comfortable finish for Toronto as Warner made up for his earlier miss by heading home from Jonathan Osorio to ensure his side would move up to third in the Eastern Conference.

However, there was still time for Giovinco to add gloss to the scoreline as he took his tally for the season to 16 goals with a powerful finish to leave Tally Hall helpless.
