Preview: Swansea City vs. Millwall - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Swansea City and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Swansea City face Millwall on Wednesday at the Liberty Stadium, and the Swans are still searching for their first home league win of the season.

Gary Rowett takes his side to Wales with his team a point above Swansea in the table, but they are also searching for a first as they are yet to win an away game this season.

Swansea have started the season slowly, collecting five points from the opening six fixtures, and the Welsh side will have to improve quickly if they are to replicate last season's fourth-place finish.

The Swans have relied heavily on Joel Piroe, with the former PSV man scoring three of the four league goals that they have notched this campaign.

Finding the net has proved a difficult task for the Swans, as they have failed to score twice in any of their league games this term and two of their three home league fixtures have resulted in goalless draws.

With the hosts still searching for their first home league win of the season, they will be buoyed by the fact that they have lost just once in their last eight league matches against the Lions.

Russell Martin will be desperate for Swansea to start winning at home, so they can move away from the relegation zone and focus on trying to match last campaign's playoff finish.

Millwall have won just once in the league this season, but they do travel to Wales fresh off a positive 1-1 draw against high-flyers West Bromwich Albion, in which Arsenal loanee Daniel Ballard scored to clinch a precious point.

Rowett's side have found keeping a clean sheet a tricky assignment, with the Lions conceding in every competitive fixture this season, and the Millwall boss will be working tirelessly to try to repair their leaky defence.

Worryingly, the visitors are yet to collect three points away from home this term, as their three away league fixtures have resulted in draws against West Brom and Queens Park Rangers, and a loss to Cardiff City.

Millwall will not be too confident that their first away victory this campaign will come on Wednesday because the London side have lost two of their last three league trips to the Liberty Stadium.

The Lions' top scorer this term is Jed Wallace, and Rowett will know if his side are to get a win against Swansea then the 27-year-old will be pivotal having scored three league goals this season and assisting on two occasions.

Additionally, Millwall have scored seven goals in the league this season, but they have only scored once in the first half this campaign, which is something that needs to change for Millwall to improve their league position.

Team News

Swansea are without the services of both Korey Smith and Liam Walsh, who are missing through injury.

Defender Ben Cabango returned to the squad at the weekend and featured as a late substitute, and Martin may bring the 21-year-old into the starting lineup for this contest.

Michael Obafemi could also be in line to feature from the start as Martin searches for a starting XI that will be able to score freely.

Millwall will be without Benik Afobe, who is struggling to overcome a knee injury.

Shaun Hutchinson and Danny McNamara are nearing returns to full fitness, although the pair will not feature in Wales.

Another injury absentee is George Evans, but there was positive news as Millwall saw Mason Bennett return from injury against Hull, with the forward featuring as a second-half substitute and he is likely to be on the bench once again for this clash.

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Hamer; Bennett, Cabango, Williams; Laird, Downes, Grimes, Bidwell; Obafemi, Paterson, Piroe

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Ballard, M Wallace, Cooper; Mitchell, Kieftenbeld, Saville, Malone; J Wallace, Ojo, Smith

We say: Swansea City 1-1 Millwall

Though Swansea have struggled to find the net, Millwall's shaky defence will present opportunities for the Swansea forward line, but the Lions will be confident after the draw against West Brom, and are likely to continue their run of scoring in every match this season.
