Stoke City boss Mark Hughes: 'Xherdan Shaqiri deal unlikely to happen'

Hughes: 'Shaqiri move unlikely to happen'

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has suggested that the club have ended their interest in Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 23-year-old was expected to join the Potters after a £12m bid was accepted by the Italian side last month.

However, reports have claimed that the Premier League side failed to agree terms with Shaqiri, who has now become a target for Everton.

While speaking to the press during Stoke's pre-season tour in Singapore, Hughes said: "I went out and spoke to Shaqiri. We had a good chat. We needed to establish whether a deal could get done and we didn't sense that.

"Maybe it is one that could be revisited, but I would say that it is probably not likely to happen. We have other targets now."

Shaqiri signed for Inter from Bayern Munich in January.
