Stoke vs Hull City - prediction, team news, lineups

Stoke City will be looking to cause an upset when they welcome Hull City to the bet365 Stadium in the second round of the EFL Cup.

The hosts beat League Two side Oldham Athletic in the first round, while their Premier League opposition are set to play their first match of their tournament.

Match preview

Stoke City began the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Oldham in the EFL Cup, but they have lost their first two Championship matches.

The Potters were beaten 2-1 by Swansea City in their opener before losing 3-1 to Southampton at the weekend thanks to two late goals from Divin Mubama and Ryan Manning.

Head coach Mark Robins insisted after the game that his side "played really well", but that they "ended up tiring in areas that we can't strengthen right now".

Stoke have signed a number of new players this summer, bringing in the likes of Milan Smit, Djibril Soumare, Josh Griffiths, Ethan Galbraith, Svante Ingelsson, Luke Graham, George Morrison, Jack Newall, George Hirst and Ben Johnson.

As a result, Robins believes it will "take a little bit of time" for everyone to gel and for Stoke to be firing on all cylinders,

Hull, meanwhile, enjoyed a magnificent start to their first season back in the Premier League since the 2016-17 campaign as they beat Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday.

Defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy were on target for the Tigers and they will be looking to carry that momentum into Tuesday's trip to Stoke.

Head coach Sergej Jakirovic has overseen a busy summer, with Mendy, Jack Butland, Oscar Zambrano, Matt Targett, Hidemasa Morita, Konstantinos Tzolakis, Jens Hjerto-Dahl, Elliot Stroud, Lucas Herrington, Lucas Gourna-Douath and Joe Gelhardt all joining the club.

It is worth noting that Stoke have the edge over Hull in recent meetings, having won six of their last 10 clashes across all competitions.
