Jonathan Walters doubly happy after historic hat-trick in Stoke City victory

Jonathan Walters admits that he has two reasons to celebrate after becoming the first Stoke player to score a Premier League hat-trick in their 3-1 victory over QPR.

Jonathan Walters admitted that he had two reasons to celebrate after scoring a treble in Stoke City's 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The long-serving forward became the first Potters player to score a Premier League hat-trick as a second successive victory sent them ninth in the table.

He told BBC Sport: "I've left my match ball in the changing room. A great result for us today, and it wasn't a pretty game as a whole. The conditions here were very windy and the pitch was boggy.

"We gave away a sloppy goal and for a while our backs were against the wall, but all over the pitch we were excellent and we competed for every ball. And now we move on up the league.

"I think I'll get that match ball signed by all the players with a few little messages, and then I'll take it home and it'll probably end up in some cupboard somewhere!"

The Republic of Ireland international has now scored 10 goals in 21 Stoke appearances this season.
