Mark Hughes hopes Stoke City will "benefit" from Glen Johnson experience

Glen Johnson can "help" Stoke City progress forward, according to manager Mark Hughes, as the Potters reportedly close in on a deal to sign the full-back.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has heaped praise on transfer target Glen Johnson.

Reports suggest that the ex-Liverpool right-back is on the verge of a move to the Potteries, and Hughes believes that he has the attributes to help the club improve.

He told Sky Sports News: "Glen's a very experienced player. We obviously feel the qualities he has will help us. We are a team that's trying to progress and we do that by getting good players into the squad.

"Glen is a player who has played at a high level for a very long time and we can benefit from that."

The Potters have already signed Jakob Haugaard, Philipp Wollscheid, Joselu, Marco van Ginkel and Shay Given this summer.
