Liverpool climbed into the Champions League places on Sunday with a thrilling 5-3 win at Stoke City in the Premier League.

A Ryan Shawcross own goal and a Luis Suarez strike put the visitors 2-0 up after 31 minutes, but goals from Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam saw the teams go in level at the break.

Steven Gerrard's penalty then put Liverpool back in front before Suarez found the net again to extend their advantage.

Jonathan Walters gave Stoke some hope when he cut the deficit with six minutes left, but the away side sealed the points late on thanks to a goal from substitute Daniel Sturridge.

70 minThat should be that for Liverpool as Luis Suarez grabs his second goal of the game to make it 4-2 to the visitors. Sturridge led a quick counter-attack for the Reds before playing in Suarez. The Uruguayan then curled the ball around Butland and into the far corner. A wonderful finish.

5.04pmStoke boss Mark Hughes will be delighted with how his players fought back, but they will need to defend better in the second half if they want to keep Liverpool at bay. There was little that Shawcross could do for the opening goal, though they absolutely gifted Suarez his goal.

Liverpool took advantage of some poor Stoke defending to go 2-0 up as a Ryan Shawcross own goal and Luis Suarez's strike looked to have put the visitors in a commanding position. However, Liverpool old boys Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam both found the net for Stoke to make it all square at the break.

Skrtel's long ball upfield was made a right mess of by Wilson, Shawcross and Butland before the Uruguayan was able to slide the ball into an empty net on the angle.

29 minLiverpool win a free kick right on the edge of the box that Suarez and Gerrard stand over. It's Suarez who eventually takes it, but the striker can only drag his effort wide of goal. He wants a corner. Referee Anthony Taylor is having none of it.
26 minThis is a great spell from Stoke. They're really cranking up the pressure on Liverpool at the moment. Meanwhile, the visitors are having to settle for the occasional counter-attack.
23 minGood work from Adam sees Stoke earn themselves another corner, but the Potters fail to make anything of it yet again. They've certainly had their chances, only for a lack of quality in the final third to let them down. Still, it's all encouraging for the hosts.
20 minCHANCE! A quick counter-attack from Liverpool ends with Coutinho blazing the ball narrowly over the crossbar from the edge of the box. An inch or two lower and the away side could easily have doubled their advantage against the run of play.
19 minThe hosts continue to look the better side, though there isn't too much in the way of intensity in this game. They win another corner off Toure, but nothing comes of it as the Ivoria recovers to clear.

4 minLiverpool take the lead thanks to a huge slice of luck as Aly Cissokho's shot takes a huge deflection off Shawcross before finding the net. The defender's effort from 25 yards looked to be going well off target, but it took a big nick off Shawcross to beat Butland in the Stoke goal.
