Stevenage vs Wycombe - prediction, team news, lineups

Fighting for a shot at promotion in League One, Stevenage will welcome struggling Wycombe Wanderers to Lamex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Boro are hoping to bounce back from defeat last time out, while the Chairboys are still waiting for their first win of the season.

Match preview

Alex Revell's Stevenage finished 14th in the third tier last term, but they have made a strong start to 2025-26 as they push for promotion to the Championship.

However, the Boro were beaten 1-0 by Huddersfield Town at the weekend, marking the first time that the club have failed to win in League One this season.

That defeat left Revell's side third in the table, where their tally of 12 points has them just one short of top-of-the-table Cardiff City.

Hoping to get back on track on Saturday, the hosts will draw confidence from their 100% home record so far, as well as the fact that they are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak at Lamex Stadium that stretches back to April 27.

Another three points could lift Stevenage to the top of the pile and solidify their status as promotion contenders, but a second consecutive defeat could demoralise the Boro at this early stage of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Mike Dodds's Wycombe reached the playoffs in 2024-25 after finishing fifth, but they have made a shockingly poor start to this season.

Last Saturday, the Chairboys came from behind to pick up a point in a 2-2 draw with Reading, and though the team showed fight to score an 89th-minute equaliser, the manager will be disappointed that his team surrendered the initial lead that Fred Onyedinma had earned them in the opening 10 minutes.

That stalemate marked Dodds's fifth game without victory in League One and left his side 21st in the division with only two points to show for their efforts.

Desperate for their first win of the campaign, the visitors may be the underdogs, but they will take heart from the fact that they have lost just one of their last seven away matches, as well as winning two of their last three clashes on the road.

A positive result on Saturday would be enough to see Wycombe climb out of the relegation zone, and may be enough to take them up to 16th in a best-case scenario.

Team News

Stevenage could be without Chem Campbell this weekend after he was taken off with an injury against Huddersfield, and Gassan Ahadme may join the XI in his absence.

With Ahadme in the side, Jamie Reid could shift across to the left, while Jordan Roberts operates on the right and Dan Kemp provides support from an attacking midfield position.

As for Wycombe, James Tilley should start up top once again, flanked by Junior Quitirna and Taylor Allen, and backed up from the centre of the park by Ewan Henderson and Magnus Westergaard.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Dodds is likely to select a back three of Fin Back, Dan Casey and Alex Hartridge in front of goalkeeper Will Norris.

Stevenage possible starting lineup:

Marschall; James-Wildin, Goode, Piergianni, Butler; Houghton, White; Roberts, Kemp, Reid; Ahadme

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:

Norris; Back, Casey, Hartridge; Boyd-Munce, Abbott; Quitirna, Westergaard, Henderson, Allen; Tilley

We say: Stevenage 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Stevenage have performed excellently in League One so far, failing to win just once, and their 100% home record suggests that they could win yet again this weekend.

Wycombe on the other hand have struggled throughout the early stages of the campaign, though they could push their hosts hard considering their travelling record that features one defeat from their last seven matches.
