Tottenham Hotspur's Andros Townsend charged for alleged betting breaches

Townsend charged for 'betting breaches'

Tottenham Hotspur forward Andros Townsend has been charged by the Football Association over allegations of betting.

The 21-year-old, who spent the second half of the season on loan to relegated Queens Park Rangers, has been forced to drop out of this summer's European Under-21 Championships as a result.

A statement from the governing body said: "The FA has announced it has charged Andros Townsend in relation to alleged breaches of its rules governing misconduct and betting.

"The Tottenham Hotspur player has been charged with breaches of Rule E8 (b) in relation to a number of betting offences."

Townsend has until June 3 to respond to the charge.
