Levy: 'Spurs will flourish under Sherwood'

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy believes that new head coach Tim Sherwood will lead the club to a "strong and exciting" end to the season.

Andre Villas-Boas was sacked as the club's manager last week after a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, and while he has admitted that he didn't take the decision to dismiss the Portuguese coach lightly, Levy has revealed that he is excited by the appointment of Sherwood.

The 51-year-old told the club's official website: "We were extremely reluctant to make a change mid-season, but felt that we had to so in the club's best interests.

"We have a great squad and we owe them a head coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season.

"We are in the fortunate position of having within our club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood. We believe that Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward."

Sherwood has been handed an 18-month contract at White Hart Lane.
