England striker Harry Kane has insisted that he is not a one-season wonder after coming off the bench to score for his country in the Euro 2016 qualifying win over San Marino on Saturday.
Kane's deft finish in the 6-0 victory was his first goal of the season after he failed to score in his first four appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite his slow start, the 22-year-old is adamant that his goalscoring exploits last campaign, during which he scored 31 goals in all competitions for Spurs, were not just a flash in the pan.
"As a striker you are going to get chances where you miss and after that it is about how you cope," he is quoted by Goal.com as saying. "Some strikers go down a bad path and lose their confidence but not me.
"I am still confident and I have a lot of self-belief. If I get chances in games I know that I am going to score so I am really not too worried. I know that I am more than [a one-season wonder]. I don't think that last year was lucky, I worked very hard to get where I was.
"People were always going to wonder: 'Can he do it again?' Even if I don't score as many goals as last year, I am playing week in, week out, and I still feel that I have been playing well, contributing to the team and working hard."
Kane has two goals from three England caps after scoring within two minutes of coming off the bench for his senior international debut in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania in March.
