Jermain Defoe: 'We won't underestimate Cardiff City'

Jermain Defoe insists that Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur will not underestimate newly-promoted Cardiff City when they travel to Wales.

Jermain Defoe has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur will not underestimate Premier League newcomers Cardiff City when they travel to Wales on Sunday.

Spurs, who spent over £100m on new recruits in the summer, have won three out of their four opening top-flight matches of the season, and enter the match as favourites to beat Malky Mackay's side.

However, Defoe is wary of Cardiff's capabilities, with the Bluebirds having already claimed the scalp of Manchester City on home turf, and has stressed that Spurs face a difficult task if they are to pick up a victory that could take them to the top of the table.

"Cardiff will be tough, they have good players," Defoe told the club's official website. "No game is easy in the Premier League, it gets better and better and harder and harder every season.

"We're confident so hopefully we'll go there and continue doing what we're doing. The new players have been great and if we go there and win that game, it will be fantastic."

Defoe has only played 37 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, but has scored four goals in his two Europa League appearances.
