Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas believes that defender Jan Vertonghen will eventually replace retired Ledley King at the helm of the club's defence.
The 25-year-old moved to White Hart Lane from Ajax earlier this summer and Villas-Boas is confident that he will be able to make a "big impact" at Spurs.
"We lost an extremely good player in King, but we still have experienced players and others with a bright to take into the future and in Vertonghen, we have a guy who can emerge as a big talent here," said Villas-Boas.
"Jan is very comfortable with the ball and as long as his ambition is displayed within reason and the team is balanced, you have to allow players to express themselves. This is why I say he is capable of making a big impact."
Meanwhile, Spurs are yet to win a Premier League game under the Portuguese boss following their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
