Harry Kane eyes Euro 2016 Golden Boot

England striker Harry Kane says that it would be a "huge honour" to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2016 this summer having been backed by Teddy Sheringham to do so.

England striker Harry Kane has said that it would be a "huge honour" if he were to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2016 this summer.

The 22-year-old was the leading marksman in the Premier League last season, scoring 25 goals to help fire Tottenham Hotspur to an unlikely title challenge.

Former Spurs and England striker Teddy Sheringham has backed him to top the scoring charts in France too, and Kane admitted that such high praise only serves to boost his confidence.

"It's amazing to hear things like that, Teddy was an idol of mine growing up through the way he played and the goals he scored," he told The Mirror.

"To hear him complimenting me like that only gives me more confidence. Going into the Euros, I need to believe that I can score goals. If I win the Golden Boot, then it would be a huge honour.

"But for me, it's more about staying focused on what I need to do and what I have been doing all season. If I do, hopefully the rewards will be there."

Gary Lineker (six goals at the 1986 World Cup) and Alan Shearer (six goals at Euro 96) are the only two English players to win the Golden Boot at a major international tournament.
